What are the advantages of the LectroTreat process compared to Flame Treating Plastics?
The LectroTreat process will not induce shrinkage, warpage, dulling of high gloss finishes, and/or fire hazards due to open flame in the plant. Note, these are just a few advantages. See our literature “Lectro vs Flame” in the Comparison area on our website.

What are the advantages of the LectroTreat process compared to Corona Treating Plastics?
The LectroTreat process will not induce any heat damage to a plastic part or require any type of set up for switching to different size parts. There are no conforming electrodes on the LectroTreat to burn out like on a corona treater. The LectroTreat plasma has a self contained humidity controlled environment so there is no effect on surface treatment in high humidity conditions. Note, these are just a few advantages. What are the advantages of the LectroTreat process compared to Gas Vacuum Plasma on plastics?
The LectroTreat is an atmosphere treatment process offering a total uniform 360 degree surface treatment of the three dimensional parts on a continuous conveyor platform. The system allows our customer’s continuous production rates without batch type treating; this is unparalleled in the industry. What are the LectroTreats disadvantages compared to other treatment methods?
The LectroTreat process does not create enough heat to burn off or vaporize most internal or external contamination from a plastic parts surface. In some cases the size of the equipment could be an issue from a floor space standpoint.

How does the LectroTreat compare to other treatment methods when changing to a new plastic part?
The only variable for treatment of a different plastic part would be the conveyor speed. In most cases, if the part will fit within the tunnel, it will be surface treated three dimensionally, constantly and evenly across all surfaces that require adhesion.

Can the LectroTreat “over surface treat” plastic parts like flame, corona, or gas plasma?
The LectroTreat surface treat plastics unlike any other type of treatment methods. The LectroTreat plasma discharge surface treats plastics parallel to the plastics surface to be treated. All other methods of surface treatment have to impinge on the surface to be treated. Due to many factors this impingement method can penetrate too deep into the surface of the plastic part. This will cause a weakened outer boundary of the plastic part. When over treatment happens it will appear that you have little or no adhesion after surface treatment because the weaken outer boundary will fail.

How do I adjust the amount of surface treatment on a plastic part with the LectroTreat process?
Electrical operating parameters are factory set for maximum operating efficiency. The only variable for treatment of the part is conveyor speed. Conveyor speed is variable so the surface treatment may be optimized for each particular situation. As the conveyor system is an integral part of the equipment, automation is easily achievable

How often does the LectroTreat require maintenance?
Our operational manual states to perform a cleaning of the tunnel and conveyor belt every 300 hours of operation. A visual check on the filters supplied for desiccant dehumidifier should be check weekly. If the basic maintenance is performed, the LectroTreat will be in service for many years without any issues.

What is the difference in treating with the LectroTreat vs the LT III Forced Air Plasma system?
The LectroTreat surface treat plastics unlike any other type of surface treatment method. The LectroTreat is a true open atmosphere plasma treating system that will treat three dimensional plastic parts without any type of set up.

The LT III Force Air Plasma generates low temperature plasma that is blown across the plastic part through a discharge head. As with the other LectroTreats, there is a uniform treatment of the surface. The LectroTreat III is designed for use in the laboratory, on robotic arms, hand held and other applications.

What type of plastics can be surface treated with the LectroTreat process?
Traditionally only polyolefin’s such a polyethylene and polypropylene were thought to need surface treatment. With the increased use of water based and UV adhesives, paints, and inks there is a need to surface treat other types of plastics, which with solvent based systems surface treatment was not necessary. Some of these are; Styrene, ABS, PVC, Engineering Plastics, Acrylics, Polycarbonates etc.
